Privacy Policy

Who we are
BC Daycares is a free online directory that helps families in British Columbia find licensed child care facilities. This site is operated by Bottletop Media (“BC Daycares,” “we,” “us”). You can reach us at hello@bcdaycares.ca.
This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and your choices.
What we collect
Information you give us. If you sign up for updates, we collect your email address. That’s it. We don’t ask for your name, payment details, or any information about your children.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the site we collect standard analytics through Google Analytics 4: pages viewed, approximate location (derived from your IP address), device and browser type, and how you arrived. This helps us understand what’s useful and improve the site. Some of this is collected using cookies and similar technologies.
What we do not collect. We have no user accounts. We do not collect payment information. We do not knowingly collect personal information from or about children. The facility information on this site describes child care organizations, not individuals, and comes from public and official sources (see below), not from you.
How we use your information
- To send you the updates you asked for (new facilities, $10 a Day listings, and product updates as the directory grows).
- To operate, secure, and improve the site.
- To meet our legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to serve you ads.
Your consent and email (CASL)
We only email you marketing messages after you confirm your subscription through a double opt-in: you enter your email, we send a confirmation message, and you must click to confirm. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can withdraw consent at any time. Unsubscribing stops marketing email; it does not require a reason.
Service providers we share with
We use trusted third parties to run the site. They only receive what they need to provide their service, and several are located in the United States, so your information may be processed outside Canada:
- Kit (ConvertKit)— email signup and newsletter delivery
- Resend— confirmation and transactional email
- Supabase— database and hosting of site data
- Vercel— website hosting
- Cloudflare— security and content delivery
- Google Analytics— site analytics
- Google Maps Platform / Places and Mapbox— maps and facility photos
We don’t otherwise share your personal information, except where required by law or to protect the safety and rights of others.
Where facility data comes from
Facility listings are built from the Province of British Columbia’s licensed child care records, made available under the Open Government Licence – British Columbia, and supplemented with information from Google (such as photos, hours, and ratings). See our Data page for details. This is information about facilities, not personal information we have collected about you.
How long we keep your information
We keep your email address for as long as you’re subscribed, and for a reasonable period afterward to honour unsubscribe requests and meet legal obligations. Analytics data is retained according to our Google Analytics settings.
Your rights
Under BC’s Personal Information Protection Act and Canada’s PIPEDA, you can:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct information that is inaccurate.
- Withdraw consent to marketing at any time.
To make a request, email our Privacy Officer (below). We will respond within 30 days.
Privacy Officer
We have designated a Privacy Officer responsible for our compliance with this policy. You can reach our Privacy Officer at hello@bcdaycares.ca with “Privacy” in the subject line.
Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect the limited information we hold.
Children
This site is intended for parents and caregivers, not children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site grows (for example, when parent reviews launch). We’ll change the “last updated” date above and, for significant changes, give notice on the site.
Governing law
This policy is governed by the laws of British Columbia and the applicable laws of Canada.
